Interview Practice for Dispensary Jobs: 7 Questions You Should Prepare (and How to Answer Like a Pro)
Interviews can feel intimidating when you’re trying to break into cannabis—especially if you don’t have industry experience yet. But most dispensary interviews are less about trivia and more about: people skills, professionalism, and readiness.
Here are 7 questions you should prep—plus how to answer without sounding rehearsed.
1) “Why do you want to work in cannabis retail?”
Keep it grounded. Try: community impact + customer experience + learning mindset.
Example angle: “I’m excited about a customer-facing role where education matters. I’m serious about learning and doing things the right way.”
2) “Tell me about a time you handled a difficult customer.”
Use the C-A-R structure: Challenge → Action → Result.
Managers want to see you can stay calm and solve problems without escalating.
3) “How do you handle fast-paced environments?”
Give a real example: busy shifts, multitasking, teamwork.
Bonus points: mention communication and staying organized under pressure.
4) “What does good customer service mean to you?”
Say what you actually do: listen, clarify needs, confirm understanding, guide options, and create comfort—especially for first-timers.
5) “How do you feel about strict rules and compliance?”
This is a big one. They want someone who won’t “freestyle.”
Try: “I’m comfortable following SOPs and being consistent. If I’m unsure, I ask before acting.”
6) “What would you do if a customer is unhappy with a product?”
Focus on policy + empathy: listen, confirm details, follow store process, escalate when needed.
7) “Why should we hire you?”
Pick 2–3 strengths tied to the role:
Reliable + calm under pressure
Strong customer experience
Detail-oriented + policy-minded
Then back it up with a short example.
Quick practice tip (10 minutes)
Record yourself answering these questions on your phone. Play it back once. Fix one thing: pacing, clarity, or confidence. Do it again tomorrow. That’s how you build comfort fast.
