What is Higher Learning Labs?

Higher Learning Labs (HLL) is Explore Maryland Cannabis’ workforce development program designed to break down barriers and make cannabis education accessible, practical, and community-centered.

We combine career guidance with hands-on exposure — so people can build confidence, learn what roles actually look like, and take a clear next step toward work in the industry.

HLL is for you if you are:

  • Exploring cannabis careers and want a clear starting point

  • Transitioning careers and need real-world insight + support

  • Already in the ecosystem and want to level up skills + connections

How HLL Works

  1. Join the Workforce List (get updates + reminders)

  2. Choose a track (Retail • Cultivation/Processing • Ancillary)

  3. Attend an event (workshops, game nights, bonfires, field trips) to build skills + connections

HLL includes experiences like:

  • Cohorts & seasonal training (guided learning + accountability)

  • Workforce workshops (resume, interview prep, workplace readiness)

  • Field trips & site visits (as opportunities open)

  • Expert sessions & panels (real professionals, real answers)

  • Community touchpoints (events that make networking easier)
